How ReelIQ Is Priced — A Note from North Dakota
Quick note from us about how ReelIQ is priced — figured it's only fair you know what to expect before you download.
We're indie. From North Dakota.
We're a small team building ReelIQ from North Dakota. We fish — a lot. Walleye on Lake Sakakawea, pike on Devils Lake, smallmouth wherever we can find them. We built this app because we wanted a fishing log that didn't sell our spots, didn't pile up notifications, and got smarter every time we used it. Turns out other anglers want the same thing.
Building an app like this — private, on-device, ad-free — costs real money. Apple developer fees, infrastructure, design time, beta testing, the work that keeps the AI fast and accurate. Most apps cover those costs by selling data, running ads, or adding analytics SDKs to monetize user behavior. We didn't want any of that. So we built ReelIQ around a simple subscription instead.
How it works
Free to start. Your first 10 catches are free, forever. No trial clock, no countdown. You can take ReelIQ for a real spin — log a catch, AI species ID, GPS, weather — without paying a thing.
ReelIQ Pro unlocks the rest of the app:
- Unlimited catches
- Today bite score — scored against your own history
- Full Insights and the 7-day fishing forecast
- Solunar calendar with feeding windows
- Catch heatmap and full map filters
- Export and branded share cards
- Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets
The pricing
We tried to keep it as low as we could:
- $4.99/month — about a cup of coffee
- $29.99/year — works out to roughly $2.50/month if you go yearly
- 7-day free trial on the yearly plan, so you can try Pro before committing
Subscription is managed and cancelled through your Apple ID — same way every other iOS subscription works. No in-app paywall traps, no dark patterns, no confusing upsells.
What your subscription pays for
- An app that stays private, ad-free, and on-device — forever
- Active development: bug fixes, new features, the things you actually ask for
- Saying no to advertisers, data brokers, and anyone who wants a peek at your fishing data
You're not really paying for the app. You're paying for the principle behind it.
Tell us what you'd want
We're genuinely a small team. If something feels off — pricing, features, what's free vs. Pro, anything — tell us. We read every message and we'll keep adjusting based on what anglers actually want.
If there's a feature you'd like added, a species we should support better, or any rough edge worth flagging, drop us a line. The roadmap is open and we'd love your input.
Thanks for trying it
We hope ReelIQ helps you catch more fish, surface patterns you didn't know you had, and keep your spots private. Whether you go Pro or stay on the free tier, we appreciate every angler who gives it a shot.
Best from North Dakota, friends. Tight lines.
