Share Catches with Friends and Fish Smarter Together

Fishing has always been better with friends. But until now, sharing what you've learned on the water usually meant a text message, a blurry photo, or a story that gets a little bigger every time you tell it.

ReelIQ changes that. With built-in catch sharing and a custom file format designed for anglers, you can share real fishing data with the people you trust — and use it to uncover patterns neither of you would find alone.

How Sharing Works in ReelIQ

Every catch you log in ReelIQ is private by default. Your spots, your data, your patterns — visible only to you. But when you want to share a catch with a friend, you can do it on your terms.

ReelIQ gives you two ways to share:

Branded Share Cards — Beautiful, ready-to-post images with your photo, species, weight, length, and ReelIQ branding. Share them to Messages, Instagram, Facebook, email, or AirDrop through the standard iOS share sheet. Perfect for showing off a trophy catch without giving away your spot.

The .reeliq File Format — This is where it gets interesting. ReelIQ uses a custom file format that packages your catch data and a compressed photo into a single shareable file. Send it to a friend who uses ReelIQ, and they can import it with one tap. All the details come through — species, conditions, location, weather, bait, and more.

Why Sharing Data Matters

Fishing is full of variables. One angler might fish mornings while another fishes evenings. One might favor jigs while another throws crankbaits. One might hit the north shore while the other works the south side.

When you share catches through ReelIQ, your friend's data gets added to a dedicated "Shared Catches" section in the app. And here's the powerful part: ReelIQ's AI can factor shared catches into its pattern detection engine.

That means if your buddy has been catching walleye on cloudy mornings with a certain presentation, and you've been catching them on calm evenings in a different spot — ReelIQ can start connecting those dots across both datasets.

More data means better patterns. Better patterns mean smarter decisions on the water.

What Gets Shared (and What Doesn't)

When you share a catch, you control exactly what goes out. The .reeliq file includes the catch details you logged — species, measurements, conditions, and location. Your friend can see where it was caught, what was used, and what the conditions were like.

But sharing is always selective. You choose which catches to share and which to keep private. There's no public feed, no leaderboard, and no automatic sharing. Your overall fishing history, analytics, and patterns stay yours.

Building a Shared Fishing Intelligence

Think of it this way: every angler in your group is collecting data every time they fish. Alone, each person has a limited dataset. Together, you're building something much more powerful.

Over a season, a group of friends sharing catches through ReelIQ might uncover insights like:

  • A specific cove that consistently produces in certain wind conditions
  • A bait pattern that works across multiple water bodies in your area
  • Time-of-day trends that hold up across different anglers and techniques
  • Weather conditions that correlate with hot bites — confirmed by multiple people

None of this requires a public profile or a social network. It's just you and the people you fish with, sharing real data and letting the AI do the analysis.

Getting Started

When ReelIQ launches, sharing will be built in from day one. Send a .reeliq file to any friend — if they have the app, they import it instantly. If they don't, they'll see a prompt to download ReelIQ so they can join in.

The best fishing insights come from real data. And the more data you have, the smarter ReelIQ gets. Share your catches, combine your knowledge, and fish smarter together.
